June 26, 2004 - Check out the LSDA Newsletter for 2003/2004 season. It is time for our annual phone book delivery fundraiser . For those first time “Phone Book Deliverers”, this is one of the best LSD Fundraisers of the year and we appreciate everyone’s help.

Please arrange to pick up your phone books, route, lists & instructions on Saturday, June 12th between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. at Reimer Express Lines Ltd. , 180 Main Street, just over the bridge to the Keefer Terminal. We will have routes assigned to individual families. You can choose to pair up with other families and deliver together if this works best for you.

On average, routes take about two hours to complete delivery. We will have maps, books and check sheets for you. Once you have completed delivery, we will require these folders back – they can be dropped off Saturday to the Savela Home – 1305 Masters Street or to Reimer Express Lines during regular business hours.

For those delivering Saturday morning, we invite you back to our house once you have completed delivery. This will give everyone an opportunity to catch up. Bring your favourite summer or winter beverage (as they may be the same!) and perhaps a lawn chair. We will supply hot dogs and chips.

If for whatever reason, Saturday, June 12th will not work ….you can pick up your phone books, lists etc. directly from Reimer Tuesday to Thursday during regular business hours (June 15th , June 16th or June 17th). Please call Brad directly to make arrangement (476-4851 or 344-6611). December 17, 2003 - Need help! This weekend we start gate training at LOCH LOMOND. As everybody knows a certain amount of safety has to put in place before our athletes can start running the courses. Last year the coaches did most of the setting up and it cut into our actual time on task of coaching by 30 - 45 minutes out of a two session. We would greatly appreciated some parent volunteer help with setting up the finish area each gate training session. Coaches will be getting the necessary equipment together at 9 am. sharp on gate days. Lets work together to make a great safe training environment for our young racers.

The first annual LSDA race camp was run last week at Loch Lomond

ACA Club of the Year: (By Mark Kristofic - Executive Director of AOA)

Port Arthur Ski Club and Norwesters Alpine Ski Club (the two clubs still standing in Thunder Bay)

These two clubs showed the true spirit of volunteerism this past winter. During the Thunder Bay FIS series in January , temperatures read –47C at the top of the hill– without the wind-chill! When the TD considered canceling the race, the volunteers from these two clubs convinced him to wait until things warmed up. When things reached a balmy –25C, the TD announced in the lodge that the race would go on (racers had to wear full warm up gear). The result of the announcement was a resounding cheer from both the racers and the volunteers alike. Any outsider looking in would consider these people crazy, but those who know them know that they are simply passionate about the sport of ski racing.

These two clubs went on to host the Mars K2 Provincial Championships in late February. With more reasonable temperatures, the volunteers again came out in full force to put on a fantastic event. All racers and parents from across the province applauded the two clubs for their efforts in making the entire province feel welcome.
